A celebration of life is a time to remember someone special, not only with sadness because they are gone, but with gratitude for the life they lived and the memories they left behind. It gives family and friends an opportunity to remember the laughter, kindness, love, and everyday moments that made that person so important to them.
These Celebration of Life Poems were written to help put some of those feelings into words. Some celebrate a life well lived, while others reflect on treasured memories, the difference someone made, the love they leave behind, and the hope of meeting again. They may be read aloud at a celebration of life or shared with family and friends as a personal tribute.
If you are planning a service, our Funeral Poems offer meaningful readings for a funeral service, while our Memorial Poems focus on tributes and remembrance. You may also find comfort in our In Loving Memory Poems, written for those quiet moments when you simply want to remember someone you love.
As you read these poems, may you find words that reflect the person you are remembering and help you celebrate the love, memories, and moments that made their life so special.

A life well lived is measured not
By riches we may gain,
But by the love we freely give,
Through sunshine and through rain.
It lives within the hearts we touched,
The kindness that we showed,
The helping hand we offered
To someone on life's road.
And though today we say goodbye,
Our memories still remain,
The laughter and the happy times
Bring comfort through the pain.
So let us not remember only
The sadness of this day,
But celebrate a life well lived
And love that stays always.
Remember me with a smile today,
And think of happy years,
Remember all the laughter shared,
Not only parting tears.
Remember ordinary days,
The talks, the fun, the cheer,
The little things we often shared
When I was with you here.
And when a memory comes to mind,
Be thankful for that day,
For love does not just disappear
When someone goes away.
So smile when you remember me,
Though we must be apart,
For every memory that we made
Still lives within your heart.
When our journey here is over,
What matters in the end?
The love we gave our family,
The kindness to a friend.
The time we stopped to listen,
The words that gave someone cheer,
The moments when our helping hand
Made someone's burden easier to bear.
These are the things that carry on
When earthly days are through,
For love remains in other hearts
Because it came from you.
A life may end, but love lives on,
In memories warm and kind,
And what a precious gift it is,
The love we leave behind.
Today our hearts are heavy, Lord,
As we must say goodbye,
But faith reminds us this is not
The end for you and I.
For You have promised life beyond
The years we spend down here,
A home where sorrow cannot come,
Where there will be no fear.
So when we miss the one we love,
And tears begin to fall,
Remind us of Your faithful love,
That holds and keeps us all.
Until the day we meet again,
Give us the strength to see,
That those we love are in Your care
For all eternity.
Celebrate the memories,
The stories we can share,
The times that made us laugh aloud,
The moments filled with care.
Remember all the little things
That made this life so dear,
A familiar smile, a gentle word,
A voice we loved to hear.
For though we wish for one more day,
One conversation more,
We have the precious memories
Of all the days before.
So let the tears and smiles both come,
For each has something to say,
We grieve because we deeply loved,
And celebrate today.
You may not have known the difference
Your simple kindness made,
Or how a word of encouragement
Could brighten someone's day.
You may not have seen the many ways
Your life helped others through,
Or known how many happy thoughts
Would still remind us of you.
But standing here remembering,
One thing is very clear,
Our lives were made much richer
Because you once were here.
And though we wish you could have stayed,
We gratefully can say,
You made a difference in our lives
That time cannot take away.
Give thanks for all the years they lived,
For every day we shared,
For all the ways they made us smile,
And showed us that they cared.
Give thanks for conversations,
For laughter, work, and play,
For quiet moments we enjoyed
Along life's changing way.
There will be days we'll miss them,
And wish that they were near,
But memories have a special way
Of keeping loved ones dear.
So while our hearts may grieve today,
Let gratitude be there,
For what a blessing it has been
To know, to love, and care.
