I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.
I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?
Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

About the Poet:
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born in Portland Maine on February 27, 1807. He was an educator and poet. He studied at Bowdoin College and at Harvard College. He has many poetry collections but his first one was published in 1839, Voices of the Night. In 1854 he retired from teaching and focused on his writing. He is one of the famous poets whose work still lives on today.
