Goodbye To You

We develop relationships that are close and when we have to say goodbye it is very difficult.

In the first poem, Goodbye To You, the poet describes her feelings about saying goodbye to a person who has been near and dear to her. We hope the words in these verses will express some of your feelings if you have to say goodbye to someone special in your life. Richard Bach's words can describe saying goodbye and the feelings that we have for our friend who is leaving: A farewell is necessary before we can meet again, and meeting again, after moments or a lifetime, is certain for those who are friends."

As Ritu Ghatourey once said, "Goodbyes make you think. They make you realize what you’ve had, what you’ve lost, and what you’ve taken for granted." Hopefully, the other poems here will also express your thoughts on saying goodbye.

  1. Goodbye To You
    Poet: Julie Hebert, 2011

    How do you say goodbye,
    To someone as sweet as you?
    I never thought this day would come,
    That farewell would feel so blue.

    I will miss you when you're gone,
    I will miss our laughs and cries.
    I will miss everything about you,
    Even your unhelpful advice.

    We've had our highs and lows,
    And we've always come out on a high,
    It's just too bad that now you're leaving,
    And now we have to say goodbye.

    I hope one day to see you again,
    As I am feeling very blue,
    So here I am to say good-bye,
    Don't forget me, I won't forget you.

  2. Goodbye Poem to remind you to never forget the person

  3. Good-night, Good-bye
    Poet: Dora Grecnwell

    Say not good-bye! dear friend, from thee
    A word too sad that word would be.
    Say not good-bye! Say but good-night,
    And say it with thy tender, light,
    Caressing voice, that links the bliss
    Of yet another day with this.
    Say but good-night!

    Say not good-bye! say but good-night;
    A word that blesses in its flight,
    In leaving hope of many a kind,
    Sweet day like this we leave behind.
    Say but good-night! Oh never say
    A word that taketh thee away!
    Say but good-night!

  4. At Parting
    Poet: Arthur Franklin Fuller

    O warden fair, of treasures rare.
    For thee my heart is bleeding -
    O maiden sweet, at thy dear feet
    I still am humbly pleading;
    But cruel is the circumstance
    That lets aught come between us.
    I let thee go - thou will'st it so -
    And strife shall not demean us.

    Good-bye to thee - good-bye to hope -
    To all that heart could long for;
    Life's rosy day hath flown away
    And left me much to mourn for;
    The music of the birds and streams.
    The perfume of the roses;
    Are fraught for me, with thoughts of thee-
    Eve's dream of morn now closes.

    The night creeps on - its subtle chill
    Within my heart is stealing -
    For light was dear, and love was sweet,
    A heav'n of bliss revealing;
    But thou wer't far, so far from me -
    Love could not bridge the distance;
    So I go on - Woe's prisoner -
    For useless is resistance!
