Simplicity Story, Thought|
by Catherine Pulsifer
For years, wash day meant taking the dirty laundry throwing it in the washer and
then into the dryer. Most of the time, it was then put in a basket (not folded), and
then would find its way to the bedrooms or linen closet. Because the clothes
had not been folded of course the iron had to come out. This would then result in hours of standing ironing each piece of wrinkled clothing. This certainly is not simplicity!
Today, we still use our washer just as often, but, the dryer is not used a lot. We have
a clothesline we use to hang out our clothes. The clothes get folded as they come
off the line, and I should add, they smell great...no dryer sheet smell : )
I can remember as a child hanging clothes out. Hanging out clothes was a chore back then, but
now I find it relaxing to be out early in the morning hanging out the clothes.
In addition, we are saving on electricity from not using the dryer and the iron. And,
of course, the dryer sheets are no longer needed!!
Whether you live in the country or the city, if you are allowed to put up a
clothesline, we would highly recommend it. Not only will you save money, but also
your clothes will smell fresh and you just might enjoy the tranquility of hanging
out the clothes! This is simplicity!
And, you just may find a bit of stress relief as you hang out your clothes. As you
are hanging the clothes out listen to the sounds of the morning! Enjoy the peacefulness of the day.
When you are bringing in the clothes, take the time to smell the freshness of them.
I never would have imagined that I would actually enjoy hanging out clothes - but today I take the time to appreciate the chore!
