Nifty Recycle, Reduce, Reuse Tips Tin Cans by Catherine Puslifer
From coffee to soup, tin cans are abundant!! Below are some of the
nifty ways we recycle, reduce, and reuse our empty tin cans:
- we use a small tin can for a scoop for Sheema's dog food.
- we use the large coffee tins for protecting baby tomato plants. We cut
off the top and the bottom and place the can over the plant until the plants
are a few weeks old
- for a slow drip system for our garden, we use the large coffee tin. We use a
hammer and a nail to punch a few holes in the bottom. Fill with water and it slowly
waters our garden.
- our niece took soup cans and painted on them and gave them as Christmas
gifts for holding pens and pencils
- for outdoor candles we melt down old wax, replace the wick and use them
for outdoor candles
- during the winter, we fill the large coffee cans with sand. Easy to sprinkle the
sand on icy patches
- when doing home baking for gifts, we line the coffee cans with wax paper
and then fill with homemade cookies. The tin can prevents the cookies from
getting broken!
- when painting the exterior of our house, we poured paint in the can. It was a lot
easier than lugging around a gallon of paint!
- we use the small cans, such as tuna or salmon cans, for cookie cutters
