Simplify Your Life - Cancel Magazines

There seems to be so little time to sit and read those countless newspapers and magazines that role into our mailbox. In the past, when we received magazine ads in flyers, or saw some magazine that seemed interesting, we couldn't resist the allure to sign up. In the beginning, it was enjoyable to receive a new magazine in the mail and sit and read it for a few minutes in the evening.

But, with one magazine, came offers for more until we were unable to read anyone one of them fully. The best we seemed to do was quickly leaf through them and then set them aside in a pile. The intention was to return to the articles in the magazines that we really were interested in, but that didn't seem to happen with any regularity. Then, it seemed the magazines would come, be set aside without a glance because of little time, or lost interest.

Daily newspapers, once the delight of a few minutes in the evening, or a good read on Saturday morning, also became a pile in the living room. Each week, the evening before garbage day, the ritual became picking them up to put in the recycling bin untouched and unread.

At this point, a lot of our time was being devoted to using the Internet.
Web sites offered everything from newspaper articles from all the major papers to everything you could read in magazines. At this point, the daily newspaper, and all those magazines just kept coming and the pile grew bigger everyday.

What was the need for the newspaper and all those different magazine subscriptions when their content could be easily accessed on the Internet just for the cost of an Internet connection? There wasn't. It seemed that we were cluttering up our lives, and, in essence adding unwanted pressure on ourselves to read what we had purchased. We were in information overload not to mention wasting money on newspapers and magazines that we really didn't want much less need.

We simplified our lives by canceling the majority of magazine subscriptions only keeping a couple of subscriptions with specialized topics that were more directive under one cover. What was once a nagging feeling to have to read magazines has now been simplified to just a few that we look forward to getting. Once these chosen few arrive in the mail, they are devoured with intense interest and enjoyment.

We often add to our own pressure or stress in unknowing or unconscious ways. So, take a close look at something so simple, that is your newspaper or magazine subscriptions, and simplify your life by canceling what you don't need.
