Recycle, Reduce, Reuse Tips Material and Fabric by Catherine Pulsifer
Clothes that no longer fit, curtains that we no longer use, the list could
go on and on. There are many ways to recycle older material and fabric. Below are some
of the ways we reuse old material and fabric:
- we always have a couple of old blankets in our trunk for picnics.
- we cut up old jeans into blocks, sew them together and use them for making
cushions for our lawn furniture, and for pot-holders. Jean material is very durable.
- we have cut up old material and sewn together to make a bed for our
dog. (the stuffing for the bed can be plastic grocery bags and old material). It
works great!!
- we have found old material makes great book covers for books where the paper
jacket is torn.
- rather than buying wrapping paper, we use old fabric to wrap gifts...when we
sew old fabric pieces together, we have a colorful packaging for our gifts.
- old material is great for making gift bags, which are reusable.
- we use old fabric for rags...cheaper than paper towels!
- when working in the garden, a mat made up of old material sewn together
and stuffed makes a great knee pad
- we have made quilts out of old material (we usually use cotton material). See our
craft section for more ideas.
If you have any others uses for old material and fabric, we would
love to add them to our ever evolving recycle, reduce, reuse list, email us at stressbylife@gmail.com
