Glycerin Making Bubbles

A Kids Craft Project
Glycerinen Making Bubbles

by Catherine Pulsifer

An easy kids craft for spring and summer, which will provide hours of entertainment for your children.

As kids we had many hours of enjoyment from blowing bubbles. We would play for hours trying to see who could blow the biggest bubble, or whose bubble would travel the furthest before it broke.

On special occasions we would receive the bubble solution purchased at a store. But many times my Mum would make us our own bubble solution.

The recipe that worked best would be bubbles made with glyercin (glycerninen). But sometimes she would not have glycerine in the house so she would make the solution with another recipe she had. As my children were growing up we made these recipes. It is an easy kids craft project.

Here are two recipes that will make bubbles that your children provide hours of fun.

Glycerinen Bubbles
Items Needed:
- 1/2 cup ( 500 ml) dishwashing liquid
- 4-1/2 cup (4.5L) water
- 4 tablespoons 60 ml) glycerine
- a container with a lid

Gently mix all of the ingredients in a container. Skim off the foam after mixing
(note you can usually purchase glycerinen, glycerine, glycerine at a drugstore or grocery store)

No Glyerinen Bubbles
Items Needed:
- one part liquid dishwashing detergent
- three parts water
- a small amount of sugar, liquid vegetable oil, or corn syrup

Mix all ingredients together.
Note different detergents produce different results. If the water dilutes the soap to much and bubbles are not easily made add more detergent until you get the right consistency.

Colored Bubbles
Add color to your bubbles You can make different colored bubbles by adding a small drop of food coloring to either of the recipes above. Make sure these bubbles are blown out doors as the food coloring can stain.

Bubble Blowers
As kids, once the bubbles were made we used everything we could think of to blow our bubbles from potato mashers to whisks to straws. We would also roll construction paper or heavy cardboard into a cone.

Let your children experiment to find the right blower - you will be amazed at how creative they will be!

Allow your children to help you make the bubbles. The simple instructions are easy for a child to help you prepare the mixture. Children love making things that they can then play with.

And, as you test your bubble solution it may bring back good memories of your childhood days!
