Empty Cereal Boxes

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse Tips
Empty Cereal Boxes

by Catherine Pulsifer

If you have children, then you usually have lots of empty cereal boxes. Here are some nifty tips for recycling, reducing, or reusing empty cereal boxes:

- Some of the larger double-size cereal boxes can be covered with tinfoil or wallpaper & used as a bedroom waste-basket.

- we cut the boxes and use the cardboard to place between an item that we don't want to be bent when mailing

- to store magazines that we want to keep for future use, we cut the cereal box on the side and the magazines easily slide in and out. We reinforce the top with heavy tape. (we sometimes decorate the box by gluing old material or using leftover wallpaper)

- when our children were little, we would cut out the letters and use the letters for making craft items.

- the cardboard from the cereal boxes makes for great book coverings.

- you can reduce the number of boxes by buying the large boxes of cereal

- eliminate the boxes all together, buy your cereal at bulk food stores! Put the cereal in a reusable plastic container to keep the cereal fresh.

If you have any others uses, we would love to add them to our ever evolving recycle, reduce, reuse list, email us.
