Save On Your Knock Around Clothes

A Frugal Living Tip
Save On Your "Knock Around Clothes"

Almost every one of us has some chores to do that lead to getting dirty, or covered, even accidentally, with some product of one kind or another. I'm sure that for these chores, you don't go to your closest and pick your finest evening wear, or to your dresser and choose that new shirt or blouse. What you find instead are old clothes that you once wore as new to work or to the office.

In other cases, these "knock around clothes" are ones that you probably could wear again to work or the office but you needed something to wear for that painting project, gardening task, or that hike in the woods. And, if you're anything like most people, once you've worn these clothes for that special task you probably will never wear it again to work or the office. And, what has happened is that you've wasted money by wearing these clothes that were not quite ready for the "knock around" selection.

So, what can you do to save money for those "knock around clothes" that we all need from time to time? Simple. Go and shop at second hand stores for what you need. Never, never, say you! Well, I used to think that way, and would end up buying new "knock around clothes" at full price including jeans and shirts. Now, you may draw the line at buying footwear - that's okay. But, for a few dollars compared to many dollars your selection is greater than you may first think.

Your options to find for these "knock around clothes" are many including Salvation Army, Frenchy's, and Value Village, to name a few.
And, you will probably be pleasantly surprised at the name brand clothes that you can purchase for just a few dollars that have been re-cycled from someone's closest. Whether these clothes have come from other people who would rather discard them because they don't meet their current wardrobe, or from someone who has outgrown them, you will find styles, colours, fabric, and quality that will make you wonder why they are for sale. But, these "knock around clothes" are there for your selection.

Get your "knock around clothes" inexpensively, take them home and put them in the wash. As they are washing, sit back and think about how much money you've just saved. I go to these stores on a regular basis to find jeans, winter shirts, summer polo shirts, winter jackets to wear while snow blowing, and, jean jackets to wear when I'm roaming on our bush property. The best part for me is that when I'm doing home renovations from painting to laying ceramic tile, I don't have to worry about ruining an expensive pair of jeans or shirt. If I get them soiled to the point where I can't wear them anymore, they get washed and cut up for rags for use in those myriad of household chores.

Adopt the habit of buying your "knock around clothes" at second hand stores and start saving your money today.
