They say the culture is different in Atlantic Canada. They say the lifestyle is different. Here is our "Top 10 List" of actual examples of the differences we have seen living in Atlantic Canada compared to living in one of Canada's larger cities:
1. Friendly, Helpful People
This past winter, we lost control of our car and ended up in the ditch. Within 5 minutes, we were surrounded by people helping to get our car out of the ditch.
Strangers say hello, and good morning, more here!
2. No shortage of Tim Horton's
There is a Tim Horton's on every other block. Atlantic Canada's people are big coffee drinkers! You never have to drive or walk far to find a Tim Horton's coffee shop. And, the tea is fresh brewed, not a cup of hot water with a tea bag!
3. Very little humidity
What a difference compared to our previous city. There is NO humidity here. There is always a gentle breeze blowing from the ocean. The people of Atlantic Canada do not know what "humidity" really is! The air is fresh and clean!
4. The ocean is close by
No matter where you are, you can drive to the ocean in a couple of hours at the most. It is wonderful to be able to walk miles of sandy beaches on the ocean.
5. Highways are not congested
In the past year that we have lived here, we have yet to see the main highways congested.
6. A traffic jam is 6 cars
Traffic jams are rare in this part of the country.
7. Cross the road
Cars actually stop and let you walk across the road. The pedestrian does have the right away here!
8. Wildlife is abundant
It is amazing to see the number of deer and moose and other wildlife; although, you do have to drive safely to avoid any wild animals crossing the roads.
9. Seafood anytime!
Seafood is always available and not priced sky high. Even McDonalds have what they call a "McLobster" in the summer time (a hotdog bun filled with fresh lobster).
10. The country is never far
You can drive 15-30 minutes from any major city in Atlantic Canada and you are in the country. Trees are abundant and the landscape is wonderful…mixture of trees, ocean and mountains!
For us the lifestyle is wonderful, we love it here!
